Postage is no longer based on package weight, the postal charges made by the Royal Mail are now dependent on the package size. The larger the pack the greater the cost. A4 size at 60g will currently cost 44p, 1st class as opposed to smaller sized envelopes at 60g costing less.
Non standard sizes will also attract higher rates of postage.

Width:over 250mm or
Thickness:over 25mm or
Weight:over 750g
For example:VHS cassettes, books, parts and samples, prints and posters in cylindrical packaging.
